Action Plan Title: The biofuels – a method to save our environment

 

1. Problem

 

What problem or problems related to climate change will your plan address? What’s causing those problems?

   Global warming is a very big problem nowadays. In  order to try, at least, to stop this process, we need to be informed about it. Everybody should be concerned with this change not only in the atmosphere, but also in our lives because the consequences could be catastrophical. Besides an increase in natural catastrophes, agricultural yields could be modified and the zones where carriers of diseases such as malaria and cholera are present could be particulary impacted by climate change. Other populations could be displaced as a result of rising sea levels.

     Whole peoples could see their way of life modified, like the Inuits of Kuujiuaq (Northern Canada) whose mayor, Larry Watt, ordered air conditioners in june 2006 after temperatures reached 31 degrees C.

   There are many things that can lead to polluting the environment, but if we try to avoid them, we can change something. A good example of pollution is the fossil fuel.

 

Why can not current policies and actions fix those problems?

   Current policies and actions can’t fix the problem because our state is a small country and it depends on big countries.

 

2. Actor

 

What group, government, or individual will be responsible for taking the actions you propose?

     There are many persons that are responsible for taking the actions I propose. First of all there are ministries in Republic of Moldova that are responsible for the ecology:

·         The Ministry of Ecology of RM

·         The Ministry of Industry (Department of Technology and Product Quality Management)

·         The Ministry of Health

·         Ministry of Planning and Investment (Representatives from development agencies and donors, private agencies)

     Secondly the heads of the enterprises that produce fossil fuels are responsible for commercializing the pollutant combustible. Secondly, all the people that are using fossil fuels are responsible for not thinking of the consequences of using them.

 

 

3.    Action

 

What action should the actor take? Be specific: What’s the goal? What are the targets, and when will they be reached? (Optional: How will your plan be funded? Enforced?)

 

Each of us should do something for solving the problem of pollutant combustible. The heads of the companies should replace the production of the fossil fuels by the production of other types of fuels, that aren’t pollutant, such as biofuel.

   Also every person that wants to use , should think of the effects of his actions and should search for a friendlier to the environment technique.

What good thing(s) will happen as a result of your plan?

 

Benefit #1

Environmental: Emissions released by the vehicles that use fossil fuels are the culprits of rising amounts of pollutants that caused climate changes around the world. Green combustible play their part in saving the Earth. Biofuels are liquid fuels derived from plant materials – are entering the market, driven by factors such as oil price spikes and the need for increased energy security. Biofuels are very friendly to the environment and they are the best alternative to the fossil fuels

o Vehicles that use fossil fuels account for 20% of the gases emissions of the Republic of Moldova. 

o Of the total greenhouse gas emissions from transport, over 85% are due to CO₂ emissions from road vehicles.

o 45% of the methane (CH4) in our state gets from emissions from the vehicles using pollutant combustibles.

 

Benefit #2

Health: Vehicles emissions caused by fossil fuels affect our health and may induce illnesses which include lung cancer and other diseases. So, with green combustibles, pollution could be reduced and many lives can also be saved. The best solution is replacing the fossil fuels by the biofuels such as biodiesel made from vegetable oils, animal fats or recycled greases, which. It will contribute in improving of our health.

o The most prevailing elemental events registered in Moldova in 1992-2008 periods are droughts accounts for 12.5% from calamities having hydro-meteorological origin.

o About 24 000 people die each year due to air pollution, due to respiratory diseases

o Up to 13,000 deaths per year among children (aged 0-4 years) across Europe are due to outdoor pollution.

o More than 5,000 of these lives could be saved each year.

5. Advantages

 

What are the advantages of your plan compared to the status

quo (the way things are right now)?

    

Advantage 1:

     There are many advantages in my plan.

First of all, it can develop the economy of our country by raising crops from what we can produce biofuels because the Republic of Moldova is an agricultural country and we have a lot of soil. Also the plants from what the biofuels are produced can grow in our state. For example the rapseed, the sunflower, the corn etc.

 

Advantage 2:

     Another advantage is that we will live in a clean world, not being afraid all the time to inhale air in our lungs. All the people could live longer and be healthier during their life.

 

6. Convince Us!

     Stopping the production and the use of fossil fuel and replacing it by biofuel, slowly, but firmly will take a step forward for combating climate change. Even if it seems to be insignificant, it can change the situation of our poor nature. So, don’t be indifferent and do something for our environment. Begin with something small, like using the green sources of energy, and you will feel your contribution in saving the planet!
